Dhyān Yog

BG 6.36

It is not possible to attain self-realization without self-control, but it can be achieved by the proper technique and a subdued mind.

असंयतात्मना योगो दुष्प्राप इति मे मतिः
वश्यात्मना तु यतता शक्योऽवाप्तुमुपायतः

  • asaṅyatātmanā — one whose mind is unrestrained

  • yogo — Yoga

  • duṣhprāpa — difficult to attain

  • iti — thus

  • me — my

  • matiḥ — opinion

  • vaśhyātmanā — by one whose mind is controlled
    vaśhya-ātmanā

  • tu — but

  • yatatā — one who strives

  • śhakyo — possible

  • ’vāptum — to achieve

  • upāyataḥ — by right means

Krishna replied: The mind is indeed fickle and difficult to restrain, but it can be brought under control through practice and renunciation.
