14. The Three Qualities of Nature

BG 14.19

When one understands that it is only these three qualities that cause action, and perceives what is beyond them, they attain my divine nature.

नान्यं गुणेभ्यः कर्तारं यदा द्रष्टानुपश्यति
गुणेभ्यश्च परं वेत्ति मद्भावं सोऽधिगच्छति

  • nānyaṁ — no other

    • na — no

    • anyam — other

  • guṇebhyaḥ — of the qualities of nature

  • kartāraṁ — agents of action

  • yadā — when

  • draṣhṭānupaśhyati — the seer sees

    • draṣhṭā — the seer

    • anupaśhyati — see

  • guṇebhyaśh — to the qualities of nature

  • cha — and

  • paraṁ — transcendental

  • vetti — know

  • mad-bhāvaṁ — my divine nature

    • mad — my

    • bhāvaṁ — nature

  • so — they

  • ’dhigachchhati — attain
    adhigachchhati—attain

When one understands that it is only these three qualities that cause action, and perceives what is beyond them, they attain my divine nature.

When the soul transcends these three qualities from which the body is born, they are freed from birth and death, old age and misery, and attain immortality.
