BG 14.5

Purity, passion, and ignorance are all born from the law of nature, and bind the soul to the body.

सत्त्वं रजस्तम इति गुणाः प्रकृतिसंभवाः
निबध्नन्ति महाबाहो देहे देहिनमव्ययम्

  • sattvaṁ — attribute of purity

  • rajas — attribute of passion

  • tama — attribute of ignorance

  • iti — thus

  • guṇāḥ — attributes, modes, qualities

  • prakṛiti-sambhavāḥ — material nature consists of

    • prakṛiti — material nature

    • sambhavāḥ — consists of

  • nibadhnanti — bind

  • mahā-bāho — mighty-armed one

    • mahā

    • bāho

  • dehe — in the body

  • dehinam — the embodied soul

  • avyayam — eternal

My womb is the great Brahman, in which I plant the seed from which all beings are born.
