In the presence of Bhishma, Drona, and all the other kings, Krishna said "behold, the Kuru dynasty has gathered".
उवाच पार्थ पश्यैतान्समवेतान्कुरूनिति
Krishna describes the gathering of the two armies with the same word as Dhritarashtra in the first verse - samavetā. Where he differs is his perspective of both armies as "the Kuru people", as opposed to Dhritarashtra's dichotomy between his sons (māmakāḥ) and the Pandavas (pāṇḍavāśhchaiva). Krishna refers to the people of both armies as kurūniti, which is usually translated as "the Kuru dynasty", but most literally translates to "these Kurus". Kuru refers to an ancient Indo-Aryan tribal confederation where Vedic religion flourished. The word kurūn is the plural of Kuru, and iti means "thus" or "these".

Hearing Arjuna's request, Krishna drew up his magnificent chariot between the two armies. In the presence of Bhishma, Drona, and all the other kings, Krishna said "behold, the Kuru dynasty has gathered". As Arjuna gazed over both armies, he saw his fathers, grandfathers, teachers, uncles, brothers, sons, grandsons, fathers-in-law, and friends. Upon realizing how many of his relatives and friends were assembled there, he spoke his next words to Krishna with deep sorrow and compassion.
